Character Name: Ōkami Amatersu (Ammy for short)
Canon: Ōkami
Canon Point: Endgame. Right after she defeats Yami and boards the Ark of Yamato with Waka.
Background/History: Here you are!
Personality: While Amaterasu is a silent protagonist, she certainly has a way of getting her point across, or conveying what’s on her mind. The wolf speaks with her actions, and she is every bit a wolf as she is a goddess (though she does have many human-like characteristics as well). As a goddess, Amaterasu is wise, nurturing, kind, strong, and brave. She will readily dive headfirst into danger if she sees someone in trouble. She has a strong sense of justice, and usually will help people with their problems or in battle. No task is too dangerous, no foe too big. Amaterasu isn’t intimidated by many things, and even if she is, she will still fight to protect what needs to be protected. If someone needs help, you better believe they have a strong ally on their side, whether they ask for her help or not. She won't take no for an answer, it's the stubbornness in her.
Even then, she’s no show off. Being a goddess doesn’t make her “holier than thou” in the slightest. In fact, the people in her very own canon say that she doesn't exactly exude the air of a goddes at all. Her traveling partner, Issun, said to her face when he first saw her "you're not very goddess-like". While knowing she could probably get a lot of praise and stuff if she let people know what kind of being she is, Amaterasu’s not like that. She prefers to lazy it up and acts more like a wolf (or general canine) in the presence of people than a goddess. Being friendly, sweet, and understanding, she can get closer to people and really understand them, and help and watch over them if need be. She is referred to as the “Mother Goddess”, and it shows how motherly she can be, even when she’s not being a goddess. She’ll listen to your troubles (though her attention span may dwindle if you just go and ramble for ever and ever) and cheer you up with a lick or cuddle. Or, for the more stubborn folk, a well-placed head butt! Hey, even a mother’s gotta dish out some punishment to unruly children once in a while.
On top of her gung-ho sense of justice, Ammy is actually one very, very lazy goddess. She’d prefer to sleep an entire day away after stuffing her face full of whatever food’s available than do much of anything (though she will leap to someone’s aid if and when she can). This actually makes her come off as pretty rude sometimes. She’s not the type to sit through long and boring explanations, so if she yawns in your face and falls asleep…deal with it. If you fall into a patch of mud and get all gross and dirty? Ammy will probably laugh in your face (or as close to a laugh as a wolf can produce) and jump into the mud herself. And she’s even been known to yawn in her enemies’ faces or, if they really tick her off, pee on them – it’s a deadly weapon, really. She’s honestly not very “goddess-like” in most occasions, but that’s because most of the time it’s just so much work! Why be anything else than what she already is? If she doesn’t have to do something, then you better believe she won’t. Fun things like digging up turnips and racing mail carriers? Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy, oh boy! Sign hr up for that!
Ammy's possibly the most down to earth goddess you will ever meet. She enjoy the better things in life like food, friends, and sleeping. She has an enormous love of nature and will almost definitely spare a little or her time and energy into maintaining a serene balance of both flora and fauna. Her love for her world trascends even her own voracious appetite, where she will find feedbags in her own canon and go around feeding the wild animals of Nippon - from the mighty and ferocious tigers to the small and delicate nightengales. Each one she treats with just as much care and affection as the other. She'll even replenish a wilting garden, or a stale patch of grass with her powers, just to see her beautiful world flourish as it should. As rude or abrasive as Ammy can be sometimes (an example of that would be tossing people onto her back unceremoniously when she wants to take them somewhere and they won't listen), she really does care about the things, creatures, and people surrounding her. Most often people won't even need to ask for her help, she'll just do it on a whim, if she's feeling even more generous than usual.
Another thing worth mentioning is that Amaterasu's powers, her real godly powers, depend on the faith people have in her. While she never asks for people to believe in her as a goddess, those who do believe in her (or the gods in general) can see her true form - the red markings and her divine instruments. Those who do not see just an ordinary white wolf, though with a cot as white, shiny, and immaculate as fresh fallen snow. Her canon even states that the light of her cot can even penetrate unbearable darkness. And when the faith in her rises - and people everywhere in the world believe with all their hearts in the power she possesses, Amaterasu's form changes again, and her real power comes bursting forth like the blazing sun she represents. In the face of all-powerful evil, the unrelenting Darkness itself, Amaterasu was saved by her friends and her people - their faith in her was what gave her the mega powerboost to become her true self and overcome all odds, to repay the gratitude of her people and save them from the end of the world.
Abilities/Powers: As well as being pretty darn strong on her own with just her teeth and claws (and her headbutting, which can shatter large boulders), Amaterasu has an array of weapons and abilities that really make her play the role of goddess. First, her weapons (these will be the ones she comes into the game with), which can be utilized as a main or sub weapon:
Reflector: As a main weapon, Amaterasu’s reflectors are like short range bludgeoning tools. She can swing them in any direction she chooses to do damage. As a sub weapon, they act as shields that protect her from excessive damage. One reflector, Solar Flare, also has the ability to produce flames with her Celestial brush, which I will cover later. This will be what Amaterasu comes with.
Rosary: As a main weapon, Amaterasu’s rosaries are much like whips. She swings them with a flick of her head (as the beads usually surround her neck) to deal swift but shallow damage. They don’t strike hard, but they strike fast. As a sub weapon, these beads can be shot like bullets, sometimes even three at one time. Again, not as powerful, but speedy. A few rosaries add extra, elemental effects, like the Tundra Beads being able to freeze foes when shot at her enemies like bullets or with the use of her Celestial Brush.
Glaives: Truly Amaterasu’s strongest weapons, but also the slowest. These huge, heavy swords are used as any other sword, but they also have the ability to be “charged”. By focusing her power into a single strike, Amaterasu can deal more damage with a charged up swing than a normal one. Unfortunately, charging up takes a lot of concentration, and she’s pretty darn vulnerable when she’s doing it. Also, like I said before, Glaives are her slowest weapons because they’re so heavy and large. It’d be easy to avoid a swing if a foe is fast enough. As a main and sub weapon, the effects of a glaive don’t change much. As well as her reflectors and rosaries, one particular glaive has an elemental attribute attached to it. That glaive is called Thunder Edge, and like the name describes, it can produce lightning, which Amaterasu cn manipulate through the use of her Celestial Brush.
As well as her weapons, Amaterasu’s main power, the power that truly makes her a goddess in the eyes of others, is her Celestial Brush and the skills attributed to it. By painting with the tip of her tail, Amaterasu can produce an array of different skills and powers depending on what she draws. A list of the different skills can be found in the link provided here, with great detail added (though I must add that Power Slash can be upgraded much like Cherry bomb. The lowest level can cut rock, Power Slash 2 cuts iron/metal, and Power Slash 3 can cut diamond).
Because Amaterasu is coming from the very end of her canon, she'll come with every single brush skill, maxed to its highest level. If a "power down" is necessary for the game, let me know and I'll tell you what skills she will have and how they'll be affected by the dampening effect.
Items/Weapons:
Reflector - Solar Flare
Glaive - Tsumugari
Rosary - Exorcism Beads
Sample Entry:
[Good gods, this place sure is the pits, isn't it? Not only is it definitely not where she's supposed to be - basically heaven filled with light and hope and all that good stuff - but it's very obviously a place filled with everything Ammy had prevented in Nippon. Is this what would have happened had Yami beaten her? Would this be what would have become of her dear Nippon? With a grunt and a swift shake of her head, Amaterasu ignores the dreadful thought. She has to find someone, anyone, in this desolate place. A friend, a survivor, anyone at all. The aura of this place is like a cursed zone, and even Ammy's feeling the choking effects.
As she runs and inspects her surroundings - just what kind of buildings are those, anyway?! - Ammy jerks into alertness every few minutes, her stance changing from curious and inquisitive to on-guard and offensive. Her hackles raise and the fur on her back and neck rises up as a snarl rips through her throat. Who's there?!
...
.........
Yeah, that's what she thought. Snorting again, she continues onward. Waka, where are you, you half-baked prophet? Did you take a wrong turn somewhere because Ammy is sure this can't be the Celestial Plain. She's starting to think this isn't Nippon at all, in fact...or at least she prays not. If this is the distant future of her dear world, then she's failed. Somehow, down the line of her endless lifespan, she failed them all. The thought makes her heart heavy, and Amy whimpers, tail curling between her legs.]
Sample Entry Two:
Bang!
Hmph, that was simple enough. Amy didn't even need to exert that much force with that weird, metalic cylander thing. But oh, the treasures inside! As soon as it's spilled - and a rather plump rat scuttles out with a fright - the contents of the metal trash can splatter all over the ground. With a wagging tail, the wolf eaerly begins to hunt around inside, digging for anything that's edible and not too covered in grime or bugs or something. Even she has standards when it comes to the wonders of food! Still, in this sad and desolate place she's in now, Ammy really can't be picky, and snatches up the scraps of food in the trash, getting properly filthy as well.
Egh, not the best food she's had, and she does yearn for the good life of being handfed in Nippon by kind and generous people, but this place is where she's stuck in. She could attempt to grow some food, but finding a good patch of soil in this place seems hard, and she's not sure being out on her own for too long is wise. The thickness in the air was unsettling, like a cursed zone, andAmmy's senses were constantly on edge - picking up presences here and there at all sorts of random intervals. Yet her eyes and even her ears and nose could pick up only the scents around her.
Best to eat and run, then. Ammy's no stranger to the fine art, but she never had to do so in a circumstance quite as this. Though she's sure the presences surrounding and watching her couldn't be nearly as tough as what she's seen and faced in her travels, she won't take the chance this time around. Bleh, no, way too much of a hassle. What she really needs now is somewhere to curl up and sleep for a few hours. Somewhere safe...but where?
